Characteristics:
-Produce less noise and vibration, compared to spur gears
-Bear higher torque, compared to spur gear, due to more contacting area
-Be able to change transmitting direction
-Cause axial thrust force; often operate with thrust bearing to reduce interference
-Double mirrored helical gear profiles can be used to have axial thrust forces offset
